By Now I Must Have an Honourary Doctorate in Procrastination

It's exam time!!!!!!!

You know what that means? My apartment is clean and I have done just about everything I can in order to not study (now that I am posting a blog I will have done everything). It seems to me that every time I need to be doing something with even the slightest amount of importance (like studying) I find something else infinitely more interesting to be doing. The opposite can be said for when I have nothing to do and I couldn't be bothered to change the channel on the t.v because the remote is too far away and let's face it if I sit here long enough something worth watching should come on ...right? Also, Exam time is when I am most likely to be surprised by an attack nap and I have been attacked countless times recently. *Picks up a book to start studying, eyes get heavy, reads same paragraph five times, wakes up two hours later with no idea what happened* Attack Naps they will throw you for a loop and just when you finally planned on being productive.

This past semester had some pretty good times in it. I was part of breakout productions, a new production team we started this year in our English 4401 course (producing the play) We started with a script of Tom Stoppard's "Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead" and we ended with a five show run and a great feeling of pride that we had accomplished so much in such a short time. The show was a success and people stopped me in class and in the halls telling me how much they loved it. The English 3350 class had their acting finals a week after our show started and they asked me to emcee the show. I had previously emceed our directing class' final scenes and some people in the class suggested me to present their scenes which made me feel pretty special. I have one course left for my Diploma program and that is Producing the Documentary which is said to be the hardest of all the diploma courses because of its massive amount of group work. I am not looking forward to it all that much but it needs to be done.

Other happenings since I last blogged back in September:

I rented a car and drove across the island to see my sister who was visiting her husband who was working on the West Coast and was spending a weekend with my nan. I got to meet two nieces that I hadn't seen in person before and got to see my nephew again. It was a very short trip but I spent some quality time with a bunch of family who all happened to be visiting at the same time. I put on my big boy pants and drove across the island and back by myself and I only seen one moose but he was chilling out nowhere near the road so it was best kind.

I survived another year on the earth since I popped out of the womb. I turned 26 on December 3rd and threw a pretty good bash at our apartment. It was a sweater themed party and a bunch of my friends new and old showed up for it. The downstairs neighbours decided that at 11:05 it was time to call our elderly landlord's house and complain without having made us aware of their discontent and despite the fact that they shut off their obscenely loud music in order to call. Gerard handled the call like a boss and the party continued full swing until twenty after four in the morning when the last of the people made their way to a cab and home. In the interest of being a good host I supplied food and some shots and because I had each dip labeled and the food set out nicely a few people commented that Amki had flown back and set up the party. Of course had Amki been here there would have been fresh flowers and much better food but the sentiment was there.

I am sure that there has been more noteworthy occurrences since I last blogged but I can't seem to recall them at this time. That's enough for now anyways and perhaps I will blog more often (most likely not I just say this to make myself feel better). I am going to have to study for a bit now as my next exam is in ten hours and I am not quite as prepared as I could be for it (but then again I never am)

Free Internet. The only positive thing about metrobus

This update is brought to you in part by metrobus.I hopped on the wrong route one and in stead of going directly from mun to the village I am taking the scenic route past the confederation building, cna, and the marine institute. The bus is then headed back to mun before heading to the village. Good thing I left early or work may have gotten an interesting phone call. The weather is trying its best to make everyone feel gloomy but I have my iPod some good tunes and a way to update my blog. School is going well so far I am not under too much strain yet and my assignments seem to be spread out fairly evenly. I think I am going to survive the semester. I have my first grammar test tomorrow and I am slightly nervous as the course is a veritable widow maker from what I hear. The prof seems to think I will do well and she sure seems to like calling on me in class so maybe there is some truth behind that. The bus just filled up and because it is raining everyone is wet and therefore they all smell wonderful. In fact I am almost certain corpses smell better.

This weekend is looking to be a pretty stellar weekend. Thursday night ( not quite the weekend I know but well close enough) a bunch of us are going to 345 (church) at the levee. Friday will be devoted to homework assignments as Saturday is devoted to work and Andrea's party. Whenever her parents go away Andrea let's the diploma program kids and her theatre friends party at her place and it's usually a good time. Normally Ryan dillon would have a party the night before but he was one of the friends who moved away :(. Side note: the huge guy beside me on the bus smells especially bad. Sunday I plan to rearrange my room and super clean it. It always makes me feel great when my room is really clean and organized but I rarely maintain that for long. I recently cleared my cork boards off and put everything into a notebook and I planned to post the results as soon as I figure out how to get my phone to send me the pictures.

Bus is almost at the village.

And I thought I was busy before!

I have a problem. I do it all too often and sometimes I catch myself doing it but only after I have comitted to doing it. I make myself unbelievably busy.

Case in point today was the first day of my fourth year of university, nothing strange about that, an accomplishment I would say but also a challenge. This semester I have registered for not just five (the regular Full course load) but six courses. I went to four of my six courses today and from the look of the syllabus, I am behind already. To improve things even more I am taking a course for my Diploma Program in Performance and Communications Media that involves producing a play. This means at the height of my workload and stress levels this November / December I will be entering a full week of assisting in the production of a play and making sure everything goes smoothly. This semester is going to be challenging but it will be rewarding when I finally finish it all and I can look back and say that I accomplished a difficult feat of endurance and patience.

Also I feel like this is noteworthy enough to add to this blog post. I had a run in today with a prof that I have had in the past for two of my courses. I consider her to be one of the most well educated and well spoken people I have met in my university career. She has sparked a love for literature in me just through her teachings and passion on the topic. In short I could say that I am in love with this professor. I ran in to her today and she greeted me by name and asked about my summer and what the semester had in store for me. She wished me luck on succeeding with my six course endeavor and there is a course that she is offering next term that I may just have to register for if I can fit it into my schedule. To put it lightly as soon as she was out of sight I swooned hardcore.

That's all for tonight Friends I am off to bed as I have another fun-filled day of school tomorrow and enough readings to make enough comfy little nests for all of the mice in the world.

Random Facts, thoughts, ideas, happenings and such since I last blogged to you.

I have not blogged in months (as per usual) so in order to catch everyone up I will use a series of point form marks or jot notes if you will and each PF mark of jot note will be preceded by this handy little character (~).

~ I do not enjoy eating breakfast at Cora's (this may make me a monster in your eyes, alas, I do not care) I was not a fan of the menu and I only ate there once but as a general idea I do not like Cora's.

~ Rocket Bakery in downtown St John's has amazing opera bars! Go there! Eat them! Be pleased with me for telling you.

~ Mushrooms are a sandwich ingredient.

~ I am no longer working at Booster Juice and will never have to again in my life ...ever.

~ It seems like ALL of my friends are leaving me (for those who are not leaving me do not be offended because I used the word seems). The going away parties of said friends are slowly but surely killing me. It is not the emotional stress of them leaving my life but rather the extremely late nights and the obscene amounts of liquor.

~ Lenore, is it my turn or your turn for a letter? I feel like it is my turn.

~ Amkiram, you left tequila in our freezer, in memory of you I bought some citrus fruits and used said tequila to say goodbye to some friends. Also welcome back to my blog I do not update often but when i do it is special. (I am sending you the link through FB)

~ My house is pretty empty right now, not of things but of people because Molly has two jobs and Gerard is in Stephenville. Living alone is lonely

~ Criminal Minds is a fantastic show and it has become a ritual for Gerard, Molly and I to vegetate on the couch and watch it into the wee hours of the morning.

~ Student loans actually pulled through for me this year by giving me a half decent loan and it got here before the semester started. Round of applause for student loans for finally doing a bang up job.

~ At a recent bonfire I burned my booster juice uniform. As a cautionary tale to present and future bj employees do not get caught in a fire with your uniform on because it will melt onto you the shirt melted and dripped like a plastic bag caught on fire.On a side note: Amki please let Daniel know that the ocean is just as cold in August as it was in April.

~  In preparation for times after my undergrad I tried Korean food for the first time a while ago. It was delicious and apparently the authentic stuff is even better. Our waitress also called it Fogust in place of August due to the horrible weather and I could not contain my giggles.

~ I just realized how similar this is to another of my blog posts.

~School starts up again in no time at all and I am both excited and terrified

~ Doing 6 courses may in fact kill me or at least collapse what little social life I have

~ I heard one of the most hilarious nerd jokes I have heard in awhile last night and I will share it with you:
Darth Vader: Luke Skywalker I know what you're getting for Christmas
Luke Skywalker: Nooo, what, how can you possibly know that?
Darth Vader: I felt your presents (presence)

And on that note, this has been another wonderful installment of Patrick decides to blog

Surprise! caught you off-guard!

Hello friends,

It's been a while since I last sat down to write in my blog and looking back I normally start my posts like this, I just can't seem to get into the habit of posting regularly. It makes it all the more special when the 6 or so people who read my blog get an update I guess It's so exciting and such.

I have finished my unpaid internship, it wasn't really all that bad and I get to be on T.V because of it.I was however a little let down because I expected it to be a little more informative maybe get more hands on experience or have a mentor showing me the ropes. All in all I got a taste of what the production industry is like and it is a job I wouldn't mind doing in the future if my career path feels like it needs to take a turn in another direction.

I have taken up a second part time job because the first one wasn't giving me enough hours (what can I say we are not called starving students without reason) So now I can only hope to expect that people downtown will recognize me as the guy from Booster Juice and the guy from Sport Chek. The new job is great so far and the management team seems to be pretty good which is a nice change from the management team I am currently working with. Another perk of my second job is the insane discount I get on a lot of product that I really really like. The downside and I guess there always has to be one I have become the epitome of a mall rat, I work at the 2 malls in the St John's area and there have been days when I have worked at both of them (it kind of hurts my soul a little because I despise both of those bastions of consumerism).

Have you heard of a band called the Pre-Raphaelites? I hadn't either but here is a link to their MySpace . Please don't get too attached to them because the reason I am posting about them is I went to their last show ever. They are a local band from St John's and a friend of mine dragged me down to their concert for a night of tunes and a dancing good time.I was not let down I had a rocking great time danced till I couldn't dance anymore and at the end of the night grabbed a set list for me and my friend as a token of my first and last time seeing them. After a quick search I found THIS which is where you can download their album for FREE.St John's has a multitude of great musical talents and I really need to get out to more shows before I see another bands Last show and fall in love with them again.

That is all for now I guess don't get your hopes up for a new post too soon, it will come when it is ready.

Life recap word-vomit in blog form

blogging comes in a series of spurts, thus this begins a new series.

I haven't blogged since school ended so a brief overview since then:
~ I passed everything and had a pretty swell G.P.A
~ I spent my first three weeks of summer vacation looking after my aunt's kids
~ I am still working at Booster Juice and have a potential job at sport chek in the near future
~ I bought a bike which is in for repairs because it broke 6 days after I bought it
~ I am doing an unpaid internship for part of my schooling with a film production company (but it isn't as glamorous as you might think)
~ I had to think back to the Fergie song of the same name to remember how to spell that word
~ I have been reading a lot more lately which makes me super happy ( book suggestions greatly appreciated)
~ I am constantly tired
~ A bunch of friends have left for the summer and some have left permanently and this makes me sad
~ I read Tuesday's with Morrie Lenore and it was super sad but also semi inspiring at the same time
~ I can feel my sinuses starting to act up but I am telling my body that it is secretly not allergic to grass, dandelions or cats and that it should just relax and not try to kill me this summer.
~ Work is overrun with drama and secrets and lies and sometimes I feel like I am working in high school
~ I need sleep
~ more (potential) posts to come

The day looked bright, and then...

This morning I woke up and made a stealth run into the kitchen where I tossed on some Hey Rosetta tunes and started making breakfast. I was trying not to wake anyone up but it took a lot longer than I expected and the result was 6 hungry people waiting as the tantalizing smell of waffles wafted from the kitchen.

With a  table full of toppings for the waffles including berries, apples, bananas, sugars, syrups and of course whipped cream (not pictured) it was a test of will not to dig in right away, waffles or not.

The end result was a table full of happy roommates and the disappearance of many delicious waffles. There wasn't much talk at the breakfast table but the silence was a sign of their appreciation I am sure. It also left more room for the soulful crooning of Tim Baker and the rest of Hey Rosetta to softly brighten my morning. What a great start to the day!

On an Un-waffle-related note I received my final mark for the one act play I directed for my directing class, as well as my final mark in the course overall. I must say I was thoroughly appreciative, as the mark fully reflected all the time and hard work I put into the course throughout the semester. The comments on the scene also gave me a good chuckle because as I was reading them i couldn't help but imitate the very distinct vocal patterns of my prof.

The day was looking extremely bright until I remembered that I have been putting off studying for my Economic Geography exam that is tomorrow morning. I really need to kick this procrastinating habit because my entire day (outside of waffles and this blog post of course) was and will be devoted to cramming as much of the course material as I can before tomorrow morning's 9 am exam.

Words Words Words

This week has been ACTION PACKED!!

Monday and Tuesday were kind of boring, I re-read some novels to refresh them in my mind for my Gothic Literature exam.

Wednesday saw me writing my Gothic exam that was aforementioned up there ^ I think I did all right, it was two and a half hours of solid writing. After my Exam the Swedes, Gerard and I went to The Rooms, the usual things were there but we were all sorely disappointed that the giant squid was on holidays because his tank was going under maintenance and cleaning. They had an exhibit in the art Gallery on Goya which was kind of neat, he seems like he was a very dark person but his art was nice and some of the images were shown in my courses this semester. Also in the gallery there was a theremin. I tried to play it but it wouldn't work for me, everyone else was playing it but when I put my hands near it, it stopped. I attempted again before we left and found out that I have to hold my hands further away then everyone else did. I think it is just because my Awesomeness overloaded the theremin. The rooms was a time.

Thursday was wasted, I spent almost the entire day playing Nintendo with Daniel and Gerard I woke up Friday morning with a hardcore case of Nintendo Thumb on both thumbs, it was Brutal.

Friday morning found us all awake early (some of us with less choice then others) we went on a hike from our house to Signal Hill, up to the top, all around the top, took the trail that went down and around the cliff side and ended up back where we started downtown. We had some great weather and I made some wicked trail mix. When we got back downtown we went to the Bagel Cafe for a second breakfast. I had just enough time when we got home to get ready for work. After work I went to Sierra's house and met up with everyone who was there. I got some awesome vegetarian chili and got in on some fun games of headbands.

Saturday was devoted to working at the juice mines  :(

Today was also devoted to the juice mines for the most part. I worked with Levi for his last shift and it was a great time until we got the idea to try to eat a tablespoon of Matcha green tea powder. If you haven't tried to eat a tbsp full of it before, trust me you Don't want to. It turned to a super sticky paste in my mouth and stuck everywhere, my teeth were green for twenty minutes at least. After work Sarah Smmm picked me up and we went to Coffee and Company for a Coffee and Coloring date. As usual it was a stellar time there was amazing service, fantastic music, some great grumbling chats as well as some future talks and we colored our hearts out until closing time. We left feeling a lot better (at least I did) and I gave the staff a picture I colored. It was my contribution to the second Grow project in which the prompt was to grow a friendship.

I just took a break from writing to read the second chapter of American Gods by Neil Gaiman to Amki's brother Daniel. I read the first chapter last night and remembered just how great of a book it is. Daniel enjoys it because he loves being read to as much as I enjoy reading to people and one of the main characters is Odin (A god from Norse mythology). If you haven't read it or you don't know who Neil Gaiman is, I highly recommend reading any of his novels or his children's stories.

Oh Finals! and Wine!

So, it's final exam time again and my house is sure showing the signs: for one it is spotless because the swedes and I spent a part of the day cleaning it, also all of my video games have been taken out of the hibernation period that was this semester ( I spent hours today playing a game that I don't even like that much) and finally my textbooks are neatly stacked where they were when I cleaned my room last. In case you haven't guessed I am a hardcore procrastinator, it is literally flowing in my blood. I have two finals this semester, a pay off for having so much work during the semester. My first is Gothic Literature on Wednesday and Economic Geography on the 19th. I am sure I will find some time tomorrow to study for Gothic I mean there is only so much Nintendo thumb a guy can stand before he has to go to the health sciences.

I mentioned the swedes up there ^, my roommates family and friends are visiting from Sweden and we have a very full house. I really don't mind it though, well except the other day, I had just gotten the shampoo in my hair when the hot water gave up and the torrent of icy cold that was left over was less than desirable. It's nice to have 3 new roommates for a short while because I have someone to play video games with. They have some interesting stories and anecdotes to share and the look of surprise they gave me when at 1:30 the other night when I made a giant cup of tea and said I was off to start a paper was priceless. Tonight at dinner I got to try a new wine (they brought it with them from Niagara Falls), it's called ice wine and they pick the grapes by hand during the night when it is like -15 and it takes a lot more grapes to make a bottle of wine because there is very little liquid in the grapes. It was good but it is a dessert wine and for good reasons, on  the wine sweetness scale it is a 17! ( a regular wine is usually 1-4 and honey is 30) I love sweet things but this wine was a little much even for me.

Speaking of wine the other night I went to a friends house after work. She was having a party with a prom theme (there are so many prom themed parties everywhere lately) I didn't dress up but that's okay because I was dressed as the kid that was too cool to go to prom. I wasn't planning on drinking because I had been the last few days ( don't judge me, classes are out) but it seems like the nights that you don't plan on drinking at a party just never seem to work out. I was given a bottle of homemade wine which disappeared over the evening and before I knew it we were sitting around her living room playing drinking games and singing Disney songs until the neighbours came over and complained.

In my last post I mentioned the one act play I was directing. We had our classes final scenes a week ago and they were all pretty amazing. It was kind of inspiring to have seen some of the rehearsal processes and how each director worked and then to see the final product on stage. In addition to the play I directed, I also acted in a scene as well as co-emceed the evening with my classmate Ryan Dillon. I was thoroughly impressed with the results of the evening and received compliments from strangers on how well of a job I did, it made me feel really Stellar.

Now that summer is almost here you can probably expect a few more blogs because i have the free time to write them on the other hand, I need to find some form of employment that will give me full time hours because if I don't I will be camping permanently : )

Sarah Smmm, I owe you a coffee and coloring date, name the time (coffee and company is the place, it's tradition) and I can most likely be there (we can call it a study break if you like)

Because I promised Lenore

They say time goes faster as you get older and I never believed that before, until now because it is April already. I guess I owe this blurring of the sands of time to my schedule which is decidedly more hectic than it needs to be.

Did you know I am directing a one act play right now? It's part of my required course material for school. I am enrolled in the Diploma Program in Performance and Communications Media at MUN which I am doing concurrently with my English degree. The program takes a hands on approach to teaching us about theatre, television and video production and despite the fact that it is a time consuming beast, I love it. The play is called Afterglow and is written by Canadian playwright Peter Boychuk it is about two teens who are hiking in the woods in the Yukon looking for meteorite. There are some underlying feelings that come rushing to the surface and the play is both comedic and dramatic. This is my second time directing a scene and if you are in my city and you want to come see it (Sarah Smmm consider this your invite) come to the Reid Theatre on April 5th (Tuesday) for 7:00 p.m.

Last weekend I went to a wedding because I enjoy a good wedding every now and then. This one in particular has a fairly hilarious story of how I ended up being invited. Take the time back to December 2010, just a few months ago, I was at a Christmas party and that's where I met Sarah King. It was that party where I found out that Sarah ( a friend of a friend) was getting married. I jokingly asked her if I could be in the wedding party, she quickly declined that and denied me an invitation as well. Not taking no for an answer I suggested I could be somebody's plus one but again all places were taken and finalized. It became a running joke every time I saw Sarah that I was coming to her wedding, invited or not. When Sarah would introduce me to her friends or coworkers I would introduce myself and ask "are you going to Sarah's wedding? because I am" this got her into a bit of trouble with some people apparently because no, they were not invited. When the wedding came nearerI accepted the fact that I was probably not going to be able to go, Until, Caitlin messaged me and said that a few places had opened up the night before the wedding and Susan and I were going to fill two of those places. I got all dressed up and headed to the wedding on the big day and as soon as I got there I walked up to Sarah and said "I hate to say I told you so but I told you so". Anyways the wedding was a great time the food was delicious the band played some lively dance tunes and they wasted the good confetti on me. Sarah and I were dancing to this song and they blasted us with confetti for the photographers and unfortunately they only had one blast of confetti so when Brandon (her newlywed husband) cut in they had to scrape the confetti from the floor and reuse it. I kind of felt like Adam Sandler in the movie Big Daddy when they wasted the good surprise on him.

Also in upcoming news:

SUMMER!!!

In upcoming news that is happening sooner, my house is going to be invaded with vikings or if you prefer the politically correct term the Swedish relatives of my roommate. Her brother, his fiance and her best friend are finishing up a round the world tour by visiting us for a few weeks. They don't know yet that very soon after they get here we plan on celebrating the end of this grueling semester with a friendly game of this little gem that I found on the good ol internet. I hope the Swedes enjoy the taste of India pale ale as much as the rest of us do.

I leave you now to go watch Horton Hears a Who because I have yet to see it and I caught the first 15 minutes or so the other day between classes and it is something i feel the need to complete (unlike my homework) also it is late and I have a group meeting tomorrow morning at 10 am (oh group meetings how I loath and despise thee)

When it rains, it floods

Do you ever get those times when you feel like there just isn't enough time in a week let alone in a day? I have been feeling like that lately. I am up to my elbows...no...that's not quite high enough... I am swamped...flooded... inundated (that's a good enough word) with assignments for school. The last few nights I have been putting my poor sleeping habits to use and working on projects into the wee hours of the morning, catching a few precious hours of sleep and then back up and at it for the next day. Right now I am in the process of pulling an all nighter as I have three courses of homework to finish, not too mention all the video editing and rehearsals I am going to have in the very near future. There is however a light at the end of the tunnel, in 3 short weeks the semester ends and that means the only thing between me and my summer holidays are 2 final exams. I suppose there is a bit of a pay off for having so much work to do now.

I am looking forward to summer holidays because it means I can read just for the sheer enjoyment of it. It also means that I can go camping and come hell or high water I am going this year I don't even care if I have to walk into the woods by myself I am going camping. Summer is also just a lazy time where I can enjoy hanging out with my friends (when I am not working two jobs that is)

If you will excuse me, I need to get back into that tunnel because if I don't, those three weeks are going to be a huge pain and more sleepless nights.

Sleep is for the weak, or maybe just those who can attain it.

As usual I find myself having a considerably hard time falling asleep. That being said, I feel I should make it known that once I am asleep, I have no problems whatsoever remaining asleep. Case in point, on Tuesday I slept through 4 alarms, several text messages and a phone call. I was out for the count and woke up at the leisurely hour of Seven o'clock (p.m that is). You may be wondering why I am still awake when I have class in seven hours? I wonder the same thing and feel like it will forever be a mystery.

You may also be wondering what has sparked my writing in this blog that has remained untouched for well over a year now? Hi Sarah Smmm I assume you are reading this post because you tell me you have been awaiting an update forever. Sarah is one of the reasons I am writing in my blog, I have been reading hers as well as others written by my friends ( who i don't see nearly enough of) and I see this as an opportunity to let them know I am still topside.

Mid-Term Break just flew by me, which would have been truly amazing had it not, as it was a mere three short days. During this time I told myself I would catch up on all the school work that I have been falling behind on. I regret to inform you I did not. I spent the last three days eating, sleeping, playing video games and well, eating some more. I went for Sushi with Amki and Sam tonight. We went to Asian taste and consumed enough food for a small Asian family, including a 36 piece sushi platter. So with a very happy stomach we three strolled downtown grabbing coffee at Coffee and Company and narrowly avoiding an encounter with Trixie. All in all my break wasn't completely wasted and I promise to be Much Much more productive this weekend.

I wont make any promises but I will try to be a more active blogger and hope that my friends will continue to post on their blogs and maybe teach me how to make my own blog more appealing ( I am looking at you Sarah)

anyways class is in seven hours and it's not going to be pretty
